The Ontario government has given a helping hand to nearly 400 Royal Canadian Legions throughout the province.

Queens Park has launched a program that offers rebates on full liquor sales licence fees for branches that are either applying for or renewing their liquor licence.

Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie mentions that this impacts four Legion branches within the riding.

“For generations, the volunteers at Legion Branches 255, 261, 594, and 644 have worked tirelessly to support veterans and bring our community together,” said Dowie. “By reducing costs for our Royal Canadian Legion branches, our government is helping ensure they can continue delivering the services, programs and community support that veterans and families rely on.”

The rebate amount for a two-year licence term is $1,055, while it’s $1,355 for a four-year term.

These rebates will allow the 391 eligible Legion branches to save almost $250,000 over five years.

Ontario’s Royal Canadian Legion branches won’t need to file a rebate application with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. The eligible fees will be refunded automatically within two to four weeks once the licence or renewal is approved.
