A baby has lost his life after a three-vehicle accident close to Leamington on Monday, according to police.

Ontario Provincial Police report that officers are looking into the crash at the intersection of Highway 3 and County Road 31.

Emergency responders, including Essex-Windsor EMS and fire services from Kingsville and Leamington, were dispatched to the site around 10:10 a. m. on Monday.

A 15-month-old boy who was riding in an SUV was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said, but sadly later died.

The SUV’s driver, a 33-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Three other individuals from the other vehicles involved were also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The OPP’s Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement unit came out to help with the investigation.

Highway 3 was shut down between County Road 34 and County Road 31, while County Road 31 was closed between County Road 18 and Highway 3 during the investigation. The roads have since reopened.

Investigators are asking anyone who saw the accident or might have dashcam footage to reach out to OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips can also be sent in through Crime Stoppers.
