The Township of Georgian Bluffs has opened air quality help centers for anyone looking for relief from the unhealthy air currently affecting much of Ontario.
An Orange Level Air Quality Warning has been issued by Environment Canada due to the extremely poor air quality caused by smoke from wildfires in northwestern Ontario.
In response, Georgian Bluffs has opened two help centers, at the Shallow Lake Community Centre, which is open until 9 p. m. on Wednesday, July 15 and 9 a. m. to 5 p. m. on Thursday, July 14. Also, the Council Chambers in the Township Office along Grey Road 18 is available for anyone wanting to escape the bad air.
Environment Canada warns that eye, nose, and throat irritation, headaches, and mild coughing are common symptoms some people may experience during this weather event. More serious symptoms like wheezing and severe coughing should also be taken seriously. Those who work outside should avoid strenuous activities outdoors and seek medical attention if they experience symptoms.
Residents are reminded to steer clear of outdoor activities during very poor air quality and check in on neighbors and loved ones who may be vulnerable.
