After a rough season filled with losses, the Sarnia Legionnaires have made some changes in ownership.

The Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL) announced on Tuesday that the former ownership group is back in charge, bringing the team back to its previous operational structure from the 2024-25 season.

“Throughout this past season, the league worked in collaboration with the Sarnia organization to review operational matters involving the franchise,” read the statement. “As with any responsible governance process, these matters required time and cooperation to ensure decisions were made in the best long-term interests of the team, its players, and the community.”

The league mentioned that it has collaborated with the ownership group to help guide the team through a transition aimed at creating renewed stability and success for the future.

The Sarnia Legionnaires finished up their 2025-2026 season with a disappointing record of 50 losses and no wins.

The GOHL stated that going forward, it will work alongside local partners to rebuild the organization’s structure and prepare for a strong comeback next season. This rebuilding effort aims to ensure that the team remains healthy and competitive over time.

“Sometimes the right decisions take time,” said Commissioner Craig Spada in the statement. “By allowing the proper process to run its course, we have now positioned the Sarnia Legionnaires for stability and a strong future in the Greater Ontario Hockey League.”

The statement also expressed gratitude toward fans, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners who supported the Legionnaires during what was undoubtedly a challenging season.
