The school, librarians, and counsellors at Ontario’s public faculties may very well be on strike as of Thursday, January 9.
The Ontario Public Service Workers Union (OPSEU) issued a five-day strike discover Friday afternoon.
The union and the Faculty Employer Council will meet in non-binding mediation on January 6 and seven.
The union stated it’s searching for much less precarious contracts for school and wage will increase for its members.
“Any labour motion will disrupt our lives – it’s a sacrifice for a greater future, not a vacation. This isn’t a call now we have made calmly. It’s a necessity, pressured by the failed stewardship of school executives, CEOs, and out-of-touch politicians eroding high quality schooling and piloting the school system into the current disaster,” stated a bargaining bulletin issued by the bargaining staff.
The 15,000 members, represented by OPSEU, have been with no contract since October 1, 2024. The vast majority of members, 79 per cent, voted in favour of strike motion later that month.
