The school, librarians, and counsellors at Ontario’s public faculties might be on strike as of Thursday, January 9.
The Ontario Public Service Staff Union (OPSEU) issued a five-day strike discover Friday afternoon.
The union and the Faculty Employer Council will meet in non-binding mediation on January 6 and seven.
The union mentioned it’s on the lookout for much less precarious contracts for school and wage will increase for its members.
“Any labour motion will disrupt our lives – it’s a sacrifice for a greater future, not a vacation. This isn’t a choice we’ve made frivolously. It’s a necessity, compelled by the failed stewardship of school executives, CEOs, and out-of-touch politicians eroding high quality training and piloting the faculty system into the current disaster,” mentioned a bargaining bulletin issued by the bargaining group.
The 15,000 members, represented by OPSEU, have been and not using a contract since October 1, 2024. The vast majority of members, 79 per cent, voted in favour of strike motion later that month.
