Durham police report that an 82-year-old woman has passed away after being hit by a vehicle while trying to cross a street in Whitby on Friday.

In a social media update on Saturday, the Durham Regional Police Service stated that officers responded to a crash at Brock Street N. and Mary Street W. around 1:15 p. m.

According to Durham police, the pedestrian was taken to a hospital in Toronto with life-threatening injuries, where she later died.

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement during the investigation, as noted by Durham police.

In a previous social media post on Friday, Durham police mentioned that the intersection of Brock Road N. and Mary Street W. was closed off for the investigation. The roads were reopened around 7 p. m. Friday, according to information shared with CBC Toronto.
