Durham police report that an 82-year-old woman has died after being hit by a vehicle while trying to cross a street in Whitby on Friday.

In a social media update on Saturday, the Durham Regional Police Service mentioned that officers were called to the scene of the collision at Brock Street N. and Mary Street W. around 1:15 p. m.

The pedestrian was taken to a hospital in the Toronto area with life-threatening injuries, where she later passed away.

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement during their investigation, according to Durham police.

In a post on social media Friday, Durham police informed that the intersection of Brock Road N. and Mary Street W. had been closed for the investigation. The roadways reopened around 7 p. m. Friday, as stated by Durham police to CBC Toronto.

If anyone has information, they are encouraged to reach out to the police.
