A trio of punks trying to steal his dad’s truck recently learned just how capable he is.

I hope woke Canada doesn’t start asking for a hockey stick registry or ban after this perfect Canadian story.

Maybe instead of calling 911 when carjackers strike, we should just call Dayne to take care of them. That’s exactly what this 17-year-old Whitby Wildcat hockey player did when three guys attempted to steal his dad’s truck right out of their Durham Region driveway at 1:40 a. m. on Dec. 10.

No waiting around here-this was a quick response!

“I first heard the smashing of the window, and I looked out and saw three guys around my father’s truck,” Dayne said in an interview from the Silver Stick hockey tournament in Sarnia where he is with his teammates this weekend. “I quickly got dressed and started to head out to see what was going on and I grabbed the first thing I could find on the way.”

Grabbed little sister’s hockey stick

This wasn’t a baseball bat or crowbar-he found his 13-year-old sister’s hockey stick instead. That would be all he needed to keep these thieves away from his dad’s pricey Toyota Tundra TRD.

“The guy was inside it and the other two guys , and I just started swinging the stick , guns a blazing , to get them to leave ,” Dayne explained.

They did. A slash from a hockey stick hurts. And leaves a bruise too.img 6761 300776813 rotatedDayne Deruchie SUBMITTED/TORONTO SUN

At one point , one of the thieves grabbed the hockey stick and wrestled it away from Dayne.

But they didn’t know this Canadian hockey player could also drop gloves too.

“That’s when I punched the guy,” Dayne said. “I gave him a right hook.”

WARMINGTON : Forget about carrot. These gutless car thieves in Whitby got all stick

Always been inspired by Don Cherry

They all took off like cowardly punks. These carjackers have never run into someone defending themselves before – especially one who dressed as Don Cherry for Halloween when he was younger. He really pulled off some Rock’em Sock’em tussles here. This has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.
“Dayne can take care of himself on ice, but he’s known more as playmaker,” his dad Denny Deruchie teased about his son who once played AAA. “Sometimes you gotta get dirty,” joked Dayne. As for Denny being proud? Well, “I am proud of him,” Denny shared about how his son saved both work materials and his truck. “But I also don’t think it was very smart,” Denny added. Dayne’s sister wasn’t thrilled at all. “She was mad I used her stick,” remarked Dayne. His dad worried about him putting himself at risk.“Loading…”The video failed again!

Not exactly wise decision

“I told him that wasn’t great idea,” he commented back then,“It could’ve ended worse.” Dayne admits that now he’s grateful nothing happened that could hurt him. Remember when police advised people not interrupt car thieves? Just leave things alone? But instead, Dayne reacted without backing down against these thugs. While many people say he shouldn’t have acted like this, his friends think it’s pretty cool that he did step up! This has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.
“They are all pretty stoked about it think it was pretty cool,”said Dayme who hopes there won’t be another situation like this again. His family put several new security measures in place so no one tries anything again! Next time he’ll definitely call police-it wasn’t done last time! Let’s hope there isn’t another chance! Those guys probably wouldn’t want round two unless they come fully equipped! “It may not have been my smartest move,” admitted day, “But I’m glad nobody got hurt.” That might be best part besides returning her precious stick!jwarmington
