A 39-year-old man sustained life-threatening injuries following a major crash in Whitby on Saturday night that also hurt five others, according to Durham police.
Police indicate that alcohol is “believed to be a factor” in the incident, which took place near Taunton Road West and Cochrane Street shortly after 11 p. m.
The accident occurred when a white Jeep Wrangler traveling east on Taunton Road West struck a Black Honda SUV making a southbound turn onto Cochrane Street, as stated in the news release.
Five individuals in the Jeep were injured, including a 39-year-old passenger who was quickly transported to a trauma center in Toronto where he remains with serious, life-threatening injuries.
The other four people were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, police reported.
The driver of the Honda was also hospitalized with minor injuries.
Authorities are still investigating the collision. The road was closed for several hours while evidence was gathered but has since been reopened.
