The Governments of Canada and Ontario have revealed nearly $2.9 million in joint funding through the Ontario Priorities Housing Initiative (OPHI) and the Canada-Ontario Community Housing Initiative (COCHI) for the development of 30 new affordable units in Whitby.
Situated at 409 Centre Street South, this project aims to transform an old two-storey building that has served its purpose into a modern three-storey residence for seniors. Once finished in spring 2027, it will feature 14 affordable units along with 16 rent-geared-to-income (RGI) units, with 28 of these being barrier-free.
Located conveniently close to downtown Whitby, future residents will enjoy easy access to shopping, community services, healthcare facilities, and public transportation.

$2,200,000 from the Canada-Ontario Community Housing Initiative to support the construction of 16 units. $694,745 from the Ontario Priorities Housing Initiative to aid in building 14 units. $7,341,255 from the Regional Municipality of Durham.
