Authorities have discovered the body of a Whitby woman who was reportedly murdered alongside her mother, located nearly 60 kilometres away, according to police reports.
A body was found on Sunday evening on The Glen Road in Mariposa Township. A subsequent post-mortem examination confirmed that the deceased is Ava Burton, 58. Her son has been charged with the murders of both his mother and grandmother.
Another body was also found at the location, but police have yet to confirm its identity.
“Post-mortem results indicate obvious signs of trauma to both victims,” police stated in a news release Thursday.
Burton and her mother, Tatilda Noble, 85, were reported missing from their home in Whitby on Oct. 14 after Durham police were contacted about two individuals at a residence on Scepter Place.
At that time, authorities noted that a family member had expressed concern for their well-being. Upon arrival, officers discovered items deemed “suspicious in nature.”

This past Saturday, a 30-year-old man identified as Burton’s son and Noble’s grandson was charged with two counts of second-degree murder related to their disappearance.
Durham Regional Police Sgt. George Tudos informed that the accused was residing at home during his arrest and had not disclosed where authorities could locate the two women.
Police believe that both women went missing between Oct. 10 and Oct. 14 and consider this case an isolated incident.
