Three teens from Whitby are facing various charges after police tracked down a stolen vehicle over the weekend – an incident that eventually connected one of the youths to a violent jewellery store robbery in Durham Region.
The event took place around 8:45 a. m. on Jan. 17, when officers on proactive patrol noticed a stolen Honda SUV near Twin Streams Drive and Country Lane.
Police tried to block the vehicle, but the driver sped away, hitting a cruiser before losing control and crashing into a tree not far off.
All three passengers ran away on foot.
Durham police sent multiple units to search the nearby area. Officers found and arrested all three suspects shortly afterward.
