Even though the snowfall warning has been lifted for Waterloo Region, residents should still anticipate some snow accumulation today.
Environment Canada predicts an additional 10 to 15 cm of snow from Saturday night through Sunday.
Flurries, possibly mixed with rain, are expected to stop this afternoon before more snow arrives on Monday.
No new weather alerts are in effect, but driving conditions in the area may be hazardous due to accumulated snow and reduced visibility from blowing snow, particularly on local highways.
Carl Lam, a meteorologist at 570 News, indicated that snow will continue steadily throughout the day, and wind speeds could reach up to 60 km/h by this afternoon.
“The winds during the day are coming in from the southwest, but as we go into the evening, the cold front will start to move through, and that’s when that colder air and northwesterly wind works its way through,” he said.
The high temperature today is around 1 C; however, Lam warns that wind chills could make it feel closer to -12 degrees.
Snow events remain active for several cities and townships in the area including Waterloo, Kitchener, Cambridge, Wilmot, Woolwich and Wellesley. The City of Waterloo has announced its snow event and parking ban will stay in place until at least noon on Monday. Kitchener has extended its ban until 3 p. m. Monday.
The winter storm that hit Friday dumped over 30 cm of snow throughout the day. Environment Canada Meteorologist Rob Kuhn reported 33 cm of snowfall in Kitchener’s Stanley Park area by 2 p. m. that same afternoon. Numerous closures were also reported including part of westbound Highway 401 near Drumbo.
