Waterloo area and Guelph are below two yellow climate alerts warning of freezing rain altering to heavy rainfall Sunday, in addition to a particular climate assertion calling for sturdy winds on Monday, Surroundings Canada says.

Freezing rain is predicted to start noon Sunday, with as a lot as 5 to fifteen millimetres of ice accretion. Later within the afternoon temperatures will rise and heavy rainfall is predicted. The forecast might convey 20 to 40 millimetres of rain and freezing rain by Monday morning.

“The frozen floor has a decreased capability to soak up this rainfall,” warned Surroundings Canada in a press release on Saturday night.

“Localized flooding is feasible. Some roads could grow to be impassable. Keep away from low-lying areas. Avoid rivers, creeks and culverts.”

The freezing rain might trigger energy outages and property or tree harm as a result of weight of the ice on bushes, the company mentioned.

The temperature is ready to alter rapidly from 5 C Sunday night time to –5 C Monday morning, prompting a particular climate assertion for sturdy winds all day Monday.

“Areas that can obtain ice accretion from freezing rain can be most weak [to strong winds],” Surroundings Canada says.

The alerts come simply two days after a Boxing Day storm introduced a messy mixture of snow, ice pellets and freezing rain to the area on Friday.
