WASAGA BEACH – The provincial government has given the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board the green light to move forward with a tender for building Wasaga Beach’s very first high school and community hub.
The project is set to receive $62.2 million from the province along with $2.7 million from the Town of Wasaga Beach. This new facility will accommodate 1,008 students and include 49 licensed child-care spaces. There are also plans for shared facilities, which will feature a 300-seat theatre and a track-and-field area.
Mayor Brian Smith expressed that the approval to issue the tender represents an important milestone for the town.
“The approval to issue the tender is another important step toward opening Wasaga Beach’s first high school – a long-awaited milestone for local education and a clear commitment to helping students learn, grow, and succeed right here at home,” Smith said in a statement.
Wasaga Beach, along with the school board and province, has collaborated on this project – marking the town’s inaugural secondary school – aimed at creating a community hub featuring modern learning environments, recreational areas, licensed child care services, post-secondary options, and a theatre for public use.
A timeline for construction has not yet been announced.
