First High School and Community Center Coming to Wasaga Beach
WASAGA BEACH – The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board has received the go-ahead from the provincial government to start a tender for building Wasaga Beach’s very first high school and community hub.
This project will get $62.2 million from the province, along with $2.7 million from the Town of Wasaga Beach. The new facility will have space for 1,008 students and 49 licensed child-care spots. There are also plans for shared spaces, including a 300-seat theater and a track-and-field area.
Mayor Brian Smith mentioned that getting approval to issue the tender is a big step forward for the town.
“The approval to issue the tender is another important step toward opening Wasaga Beach’s first high school – a long-awaited milestone for local education and a clear commitment to helping students learn, grow, and succeed right here at home,” Smith said in a statement.
Wasaga Beach, along with the school board and province, has collaborated on this project – the town’s first secondary school – aiming to establish a community hub that will offer modern learning environments, recreational areas, licensed child care services, post-secondary options, and a theater available for community use.
A timeline for construction hasn’t been announced yet.
