A homeowner in Vaughan has been taken into custody after discharging a firearm while thieves tried to steal a luxury vehicle from his driveway on Thursday morning.

Police responded to calls about the incident near Pine Valley Drive and Teston Road just after 5:30 a. m., where it was reported that individuals were attempting to steal a Lamborghini parked at the residence.

According to officials, four suspects have been apprehended – three adults and one minor – with one additional suspect still being sought.

An eyewitness told 680 News Radio that his brother fired a shot into the air in an effort to scare off the thieves during the attempted heist.

Authorities have filed several charges as they continue their search for one more suspect.

20-year-old Moses Newton Larmond from Brampton, 20-year-old Troy Boca Peart from Toronto, 22-year-old Nana-Yaw Kwarten from Mississauga, along with a 16-year-old male from Pickering have all been charged with multiple offenses including:

Attempted break and enter; Attempted theft of a motor vehicle; Disguise with intent; and Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Kwarten is also facing charges for violating his probation, while the 16-year-old was already out on bail for several pending charges.

A 35-year-old man from Vaughan, whose name hasn’t been released yet, is facing multiple charges including:

Discharge of firearm; Possession of weapon; Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose; Careless storage of a firearm; and Unauthorized possession of a prohibited/restricted weapon.

β€œTo ensure public safety and protect our officers, we need a bail system that effectively addresses repeat violent offenders while maintaining public confidence,”
