A 46-year-old father was tragically shot in Vaughan, Ont., while trying to defend his wife and children during a home invasion early Sunday morning.

“This innocent man had his doors kicked in at night; four people entered – with his three kids and wife inside – one of the suspects held a gun to one of the kids. He stepped up to protect them and these criminals shot him dead right in front of his children, twice,” Ontario Premier Doug Ford told reporters on Tuesday afternoon.

“Just think about the trauma these kids will carry for the rest of their lives.”

The event occurred at a residence in a new development located in the Kleinburg area just before 1 a. m., as reported by York Regional Police, who named the victim as Abdul Aleem Farooqi. At least three masked individuals dressed in dark clothing invaded the home at 22 Andreeta Dr. in what authorities are treating as a “targeted incident.”

Farooqi’s obituary and a Facebook message from his business, Toronto-based Unique Providers Air Duct Cleaning, confirmed that he was a father of four.

“He will always be remembered for his service, humility, and faith,” the post states. “May Allah grant him maghfirat and provide strength to his family.”

After police arrived, a neighbor witnessed a woman “fall to the ground” crying after talking with officers, and heard a teenage boy repeatedly saying “My dad,” according to the . The neighbor mentioned that this family would often bring “chocolate and gifts” to nearby homes during holiday seasons.

“These victims are absolutely true victims,” Ron Chhinzer, who is running as a Conservative candidate in Oakville for the upcoming spring election and is also a former Toronto police officer, shared on X over the weekend.

Prabmeet Sarkaria, representing Brampton South in Ontario’s legislature, described it as “heartbreaking and infuriating.” On X he wrote, “No parent should ever have to experience someone pointing a gun at their child inside their own home.”

King-Vaughan MPP Stephen Lecce remarked on X that he had met Farooqi and would remember him as both an admirable family man and dedicated business leader.

According to , Farooqi owned Unique Providers Air Duct Cleaning , which operates within Toronto. He appears in several You Tube videos uploaded six years ago on his company’s channel.

Chhinzer was joined by Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre , who expressed being ” heartbroken ” upon hearing about another homicide occurring recently in Vaughan. On Wednesday afternoon , Deuvane Donald Francis , aged 41 , passed away due to gunshot injuries sustained at another Vaughan commercial location.

” The crime wave sweeping through our nation needs strong laws aimed at holding criminals accountable while curbing violence across communities ,” Poilievre tweeted.

Lecce alongside Sarkaria advocated for tougher penalties regarding violent offenses with hopes of preventing future incidents like this one while enhancing public safety.

‘ This represents an unimaginable nightmare not only for this family but also their neighbors … Offenders need clear messages stating they will face substantial jail time if they commit violent acts’ said Lecce urging reinstatement federal mandatory minimum sentences.
Ford added further emphasis during Tuesday’s press conference promising action ‘to keep pressure on federal government ’ concerning bail reform & strengthening criminal code regarding mandatory sentences’
‘These lenient judges release offenders under bail multiple times allowing them freedom despite previous crimes committed,’ stated Ford adding ‘There are no consequences for such actions.’

‘When caught I can almost guarantee these guys were previously released under bail after committing heinous offenses.’

Vaughan Mayor Steven Del Duca shared online condolences emphasizing how safe Vaughan remains; however he noted assistance from Ottawa is necessary for continued safety measures.
In response , ‘We urgently require immediate action from federal officials concerning our failing bail system along with protection efforts directed towards residents ’ read part statement made by Del Duca.
A vigil honoring Farooqi took place Sunday night attended by Conservative MPs Anna Roberts (King-Vaughan) & Michael Guglielmin (Vaughan-Woodbridge). Both representatives expressed calls towards removing illegal firearms off streets along swift action addressing violent crimes through separate posts made onto Facebook platform.
Witnesses yet unspoken with law enforcement are urged forward alongside anyone possessing security footage from nearby areas where incident transpired.
The has reached out again seeking confirmation about additional occupants present within dwelling when occurrence happened plus updates regarding ongoing investigations carried out currently by local authorities involved.
