A fire that started in a home’s basement in Cambridge is not being treated as suspicious.

Fire crews arrived at the scene of the residential fire on Weaver Street around 7 a. m. on Thursday.

They found flames in the basement and were able to put them out quickly.

Officials reported that working smoke alarms alerted the residents, though two people from the lower unit were checked by paramedics and taken to the hospital.

The amount of damage caused by the fire has not been assessed yet.

While the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office was informed, a representative from the Cambridge Fire Department stated that there are no suspicions regarding the cause of the fire.
