A pedestrian has lost his life after being struck by a vehicle at a highway intersection in Vaughan, Ont., on Saturday.

At around 1:30 a. m., a 76-year-old man was hit by someone driving a white BMW at the intersection of Highway 7 and Martin Grove Road, according to York Regional Police.

The police reported that the man was unconscious when emergency responders arrived and later lost vital signs.

Rescue teams started performing CPR while transporting him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

The driver stayed at the scene, police confirmed.

The intersection and parts of nearby roads were closed overnight for an investigation by law enforcement.

Authorities are urging any witnesses to get in touch with York Regional Police’s Major Collision Investigation Unit.
