A man, age 46, has died following what police suspect was a “targeted” home invasion in Vaughan early Sunday morning, according to York Regional Police.

The victim has been identified as Abdul Aleem Farooqi in a news release issued on Sunday.

Police responded to a call regarding a home invasion at a residence near Andreeta Drive and Barons Street shortly after 1 a. m., as stated in the release.

Upon arrival, officers found an individual who had sustained “trauma to his body.” The man was declared dead at the scene despite attempts to save him, the release noted.

The homicide unit is currently conducting an investigation.

Authorities are searching for at least three suspects described as wearing dark clothing and face coverings during the incident.

Residents are being asked to steer clear of the area while investigations are ongoing, police mentioned in a social media update.

Anyone with information about this event or any security footage from the vicinity is encouraged to reach out to York Regional Police or Crime Stoppers.
