York Regional Police have announced that a 19-year-old suspect has been charged with first-degree murder following the shooting of a 65-year-old man at a Vaughan plaza in January.
This incident took place in the parking lot of a plaza located near Winges and Rowntree Dairy roads, just south of Highway 7 and west of Weston Road, around 1 p. m. on January 26.
At that time, officers received numerous calls reporting gunshots. When emergency crews arrived, they found the injured victim outside a business. He was transported to a hospital where he was later declared dead.
The victim has been identified as Sergio Lopes, a resident of Richmond Hill.
An update from investigators released Monday morning stated that one suspect was arrested on Thursday. Authorities reported he was found in Moosonee, which is over 500 kilometers north of Sudbury.
The individual accused is Jacob Wallace, a 19-year-old from Mississauga. He faces charges of first-degree murder and arson causing property damage.
A Canada-wide arrest warrant remains active for another suspect. Officers are currently looking for Isaiah Thomas Badger, also 19 years old and from Edmonton. He’s wanted for first-degree murder and arson causing property damage.
“Badger is considered armed and dangerous. If spotted, citizens should not approach but should contact police immediately,” investigators noted in their statement.
“The accused is encouraged to seek legal advice and turn himself in.”
The allegations haven’t been proven in court.
