York Regional Police report that a man has died following a shooting in Vaughan on Monday afternoon.
Officers received multiple reports of gunshots at a plaza located on Weston Road and Colossus Drive, close to Highway 7 and Highway 400, just after 1 p. m.
Upon their arrival, they found a male who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot of a business. He was rushed to a local hospital with critical injuries where he later passed away. The homicide unit is now handling the investigation.
The police describe the vehicle linked to the suspect as a black SUV, but no additional information is available at this moment.
Shortly thereafter, police got another call about a vehicle fire near Kipling Avenue, just north of Woodbridge Avenue. Authorities say this vehicle matched the description of the one involved in the shooting and are looking into whether the fire is connected to it.
The authorities believe this shooting was targeted and state that there is no risk to public safety.
