Read more Ohio congresswoman Marcy Kaptur was hospitalized following a hit-and-run crash in Toledo on Sunday morning. Kaptur, a Democratic representative of Toledo who is the longest-ever-serving U. S. congresswoman, was a passenger in a vehicle heading to church service Sunday morning when their car was hit, according to a spokesperson for her office on X. “She is active, alert, and being treated for non-life-threatening injuries,” the statement added. Kaptur, 80, along with another passenger were taken to the hospital for treatment, authorities told 13 Action News. “Congresswoman Kaptur is thankful for the quick actions of first responders from Toledo Police and Fire Departments who arrived promptly on scene, and the medical professionals helping to take care of those involved in the crash,” said Rep. Kaptur’s office in their statement. Ohio congresswoman Marcy Kaptur was hospitalized following a car crash on Sunday (Getty) The statement continued: “She expressed her deep gratitude to the hundreds of constituents who have reached out and looks forward to returning to a full schedule soon.” A witness informed CBS affiliate WTOL 11 that another driver was picked up by another vehicle and left right after the crash. Toledo police indicated they are just beginning their investigation into what they labeled as a “hit-skip crash.” The term “hit and skip” refers specifically in Ohio for hit-and-run incidents. Their investigation remains ongoing.

The House is currently on its summer recess so Kaptur wasn’t expected back in Washington this week.
Kaptur holds records as both the longest-serving woman in Congress overall and within the House of Representatives. She has represented Ohio’s 9th Congressional District since 1983.
Her office noted that first responders quickly arrived at the scene and mentioned that she had “medical professionals helping to take care of those involved in the crash.”
The statement concluded: “we look forward to any additional information from Toledo Police as they investigate this accident.”
