What’s open and closed on the Civic Holiday Monday? (Postmedia newsfile)
The long weekend for Civic Holiday is here, giving many Canadians an extra day off. While this holiday is celebrated on the first Monday of August all over Canada, it isn’t a mandatory federal holiday. This year, it lands on Aug. 3.

Many towns in Ontario celebrate this holiday with their own unique twist. For example, Toronto has Simcoe Day, Guelph celebrates John Galt Day, while Ottawa recognizes Colonel By Day. But here in Kingston, it’s just referred to as Civic Holiday.
As folks prepare for their long weekend plans, they’ll notice that some businesses and public services are running on different schedules while others will be completely closed. Here’s what you can expect throughout Kingston.
Municipal services
No garbage or green bin collection will take place on Monday. Instead, collection will happen a day later than usual.
Kingston Transit will be operating according to a Sunday schedule. You can check out your regular routes at Kingston Transit. ca or plan your trip using the Transit app.
The Kingston Access Bus Services will run with limited service. The booking office will be open from 7:30 until 11 a. m. For details, call 613-542-2512.
The Kingston Disposal Site at 189 Lappan’s Ln. is also closed on Monday.

Administrative offices such as customer experience and housing along with social services located on Montreal Street and Provincial Offences Court will remain closed during this time.
The Utilities Kingston and Kingston Hydro offices are also closed on Monday. If you’re facing any utility emergencies like gas leaks or power outages call their emergency line at 613-546-1181 right away.
Recreation facilities
The Invista Centre won’t be open this Monday.
The Artillery Park Aquatic Centre is also closing its doors for that day.
The Rideau Heights Community Centre won’t be accessible either.
The same goes for Kingston East Community Centre which will also stay shut down. While some online services are still available , please note that The Kingston Frontenac Public Library will be closed too. Portsmouth Olympic Harbour as well as Confederation Basin marinas remain operational. The Kingston Grand Theatre won’t have its doors open either. However , tickets for shows can still be purchased online via Kingston Grand. ca. The Pumphouse Museum won’t welcome visitors either , nor will The Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning.This has not loaded yet，but your article continues below.
All banks alongside post offices recognize civic holidays so they’ll remain closed this day ，meaning no mail delivery or pick-up takes place.
Retail
Locations like LCBOs found along Highway 15 , Princess Street at Concession Street , Armstrong Road at Bath Road together with those situated within Amherstview are shutting down entirely.
On King Street alongside Division Street though , LCBO outlets operate between hours of eleven am until six pm while Midland Avenue operates longer till eight pm. Beer Store branches located at Division Street alongside Bath Road won’t operate but those located along Concession Street plus Midland Avenue function between hours eleven am till six pm too. Cataraqui Centre remains accessible during normal hours spanning eleven am till five pm while Coctco Wholesale follows usual hours starting nine am until eight thirty pm respectively.
