(CNN) – On Wednesday, the FBI executed a warrant at an elections office in Fulton County, Georgia, as part of its investigation into alleged voter fraud during the 2020 election.
A source close to the situation informed CNN that this search is connected to a Justice Department initiative aimed at obtaining election records and probing claims of voter fraud in the county, including Atlanta. This area has been central to former President Donald Trump’s unfounded assertions that he lost the 2020 presidential election due to widespread fraud.
The Justice Department had previously filed a lawsuit against Fulton County officials to compel them to release records related to the 2020 election. So far, there has been no ruling from a judge on this case.
An inquiry by the DOJ during Trump’s first term found no evidence supporting claims of significant fraud that could have altered the outcome of last month’s presidential election.
The FBI Atlanta office chose not to provide further details, stating that “our investigation into this matter is ongoing.”
