A woman in her 50s has died, and a man is now in custody after a violent incident in Mississauga on Friday night.
Peel Regional Police reported that they received a call about an assault at a plaza located at 1310 Dundas Street East just before 8 p. m., where officers found a woman with serious traumatic injuries.
“The initial calls that came into police was that a female had been assaulted using a weapon of sorts, whether that be a club, a pole, or a bat,” said Cst. Tyler Bell.
According to Bell, the woman was transported to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead.
After a brief foot chase, police took a man in his 50s into custody.
Bell indicated they believe the two individuals knew each other but did not provide details about their relationship.
“It does not appear to be random,” said Bell. “What perpetuated the attack on this poor woman, we don’t know.”
He also mentioned that they think this situation is specific to those involved and there are no other suspects being pursued.
The weapon used during the assault has been retrieved from the scene.
If anyone witnessed the incident or has video footage from the area, they’re encouraged to reach out to the police.
