“We are each of us angels with only one wing, and we can only fly by embracing one another,” wrote Italian actor and author Luciano De Crescenzo.

The trio from Tillsonburg has truly embraced these words.

Deb Corrigan, Dee Tosto, and Kelly Spencer have come together to create Tillsonburg Angels, a Tree of Hope initiative to assist families during the Christmas period.

“With our economy as it is now, many kids won’t experience the Christmas joy they used to,” Corrigan shared. “So we thought about putting angels on a tree and gathering gifts for kids.”

With this idea in mind, Corrigan and her friend Tosto reached out to Spencer-who serves as a town councillor and runs the Indigo Lounge Wellness and Eatery. Spencer was eager to host the toys and tree at her location.

“I presented the idea to Kelly, and within two minutes she said, ‘I’m in; let’s make it happen’,” Corrigan remembered.

“It’s fantastic when community members get involved and motivated to support others,” Spencer remarked.

“I’m a yes person,” she continued. “As soon as Deb approached me with this idea I thought it was amazing. There are lots of other initiatives that people can join in on but grassroots efforts like Tillsonburg Angels really inspire others when they have the ability to help.”..

From Nov. 12 until Dec. 15, locals can drop off unwrapped gifts for children up to age 18 at The Lounge where an angel bearing their name will be hung on the tree. Cash donations are also encouraged...

Tosto is excited to contribute despite her busy schedule with Station Arts and Tillsonburg Community Living...

“I enjoy getting involved in community projects,” said Tosto who moved from Mississauga two years ago.I’m always open for new projects.”

The trio decided to wait until after Remembrance Day before promoting their project but plan a big push both online and around town starting Nov. 12.

The local Tim Hortons and Metro stores have already pitched in with gift cards while money has been donated from Corrigan’s former women’s group in Mt. Hope.

“I think this is going to be successful,” said Corrigan.“There’s a lot of community support.”

Spencer noted that there’s an increasing need within the town; she recently visited the Tillsonburg Helping Hands Food Bank where over 100 families were served that day.

“When there are vulnerable individuals or those facing hardships I believe it’s everyone’s duty in the community-to uplift them when possible,” she stated.” We’re all in this together.”

The Indigo Lounge is located at 265 Tillson Ave., open Tuesday through Thursday from 11:30 a. m. to 7:30 p. m., Fridays from 11:30 a. m. to 9 p. m., and Saturdays from 9 a. m. to 9 p. m.
