‘I can’t believe it’: Patrick Chilton won a massive 50/50 prize that attracted many ticket buyers from across Northern Ontario, including the Sault.

The incredible jackpot for the Thunder Bay Hospital Foundation 50/50 draw is heading to Timmins.

Patrick Chilton from Timmins and Moose Factory is the lucky winner of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation’s December draw, taking home an astonishing $7,720,930 grand prize for hospital 50/50s.

He received the life-changing call while on his way to breakfast.

“I can’t believe it. I’ve always supported the Foundation and other hospitals. I worked in health care for a long time,” Chilton said on the call.

Chilton has held various positions in health care, including roles with Weeneebayko Area Health Authority in the James Bay area and in Sioux Lookout, Northwestern Ontario.

This jackpot is a record amount, exceeding last year’s win by Natalie and Clem Bigras of Hanmer, Ontario, who took home $6,436,355.

Before getting the call, Chilton and his wife were discussing potential travel plans.

“I guess we’re going on a vacation,” he said, noting that Mexico was already part of their conversation.
