Municipal leaders are stressing again how crucial it is to upgrade Highways 11 and 17 in northern Ontario.
This week, three organizations-the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association, the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities, and the Rural Ontario Municipal Association-are meeting with their federal and provincial counterparts.
Their goal is to push forward the modernization of the Trans-Canada highway in this area.
The highways have faced multiple closures throughout winter and even recently, highlighting concerns about highway safety and the significance of internal trade routes.
The groups are engaging with the Federal Minister of Transport and Internal Trade, as well as George Pirie, who is the Minister of Northern Economic Development and Growth.
NOMA president Rick Dumas also had a brief opportunity to meet with Prime Minister Mark Carney.
