St. Thomas, Ontario was certainly buzzing Wednesday night.
The town of about 43,000 people located about 40 minutes south of London, was surprised by a former baseball star and Toronto Blue Jays legend Jesse Barfield. He spent the first 8.5 seasons of his career in Toronto, where he played a key role on the 1985 team that reached the American League Championship Series and made his only All-Star appearance in 1986. I had to take a picture of this 1987 Blue Jays schedule after I autographed it for one of our fans last night!!🇨🇦👍🏽🙏🏽👊🏽🇨🇦 He patrolled right field at Exhibition Stadium and formed part of a celebrated outfield trio alongside George Bell and Lloyd Moseby. He was traded to the New York Yankees midway through the 1989 season before injuries affected his performance. Barfield was in town for the annual St. Thomas Sports Spectacular which also featured other sports legends like Ray Bourque, Marcel Dionne, and Monique Billings. Before the event kicked off, Barfield spent time working closely with players from St. Thomas Minor Baseball, sharing tips, advice, and insights from his major league experience. Barfield expressed his pride in being part of the event. This is great because it’s all about the kids now. We love giving back and when I have an opportunity to do this with these guys.. to change the trajectory of those lives, that’s what it’s all aboutBarfield remains a Canadian baseball legend
He was elected to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2023. Previously on Blue Jays Central POLL 10 HOURS AGO | 43 ANSWERS Former Blue Jays Star Makes Surprise Appearance at Youth ClinicAre you a fan of former Toronto Blue Jays right fielder Jesse Barfield?
