CN Railway is looking into a train derailment that took place in St. Catharines, Ont.
The incident was reported by police early Monday morning, close to Glendale Avenue and Keele Street.
According to CN Railway media relations advisor Michelle Hannan, there were no injuries or fires reported, and both CN crews and local first responders are on-site as of Monday afternoon.
The derailment was visible from the Welland Canals Trail, where a white granular material had spilled from one of the overturned railcars.
Hannan mentioned that polyethylene, which is considered a “non-dangerous good” used in making household plastics, had leaked out. She assured that there’s no risk to the public.
The reason for the derailment remains unknown and is currently being investigated, she stated.

GO trains affected
Niagara police reported Monday morning that there was a train blocking Glendale Avenue near Keele Street. Later in the morning, they confirmed that the blockage had been cleared. Metrolinx announced around midday Monday that GO train services are halted between Confederation GO in Stoney Creek and Niagara Falls GO “due to a freight train issue.” This also means service to St. Catharines GO is suspended. Passengers can take route 12 GO bus to Burlington GO for their train connections, according to Metrolinx. “It is strongly encouraged that non-essential travel is reconsidered, as bus service is limited.” More updates will follow.Source link
