Niagara regional police are looking into a case where around $50,000 in jewelry was stolen from a home in St. Catharines, Ont., earlier this year.

On April 10, officers were called to a residence near Read Road and Lakeshore Road after receiving a report of theft.

The homeowner had just come back after being out of the country and found that several valuable pieces of jewelry were missing from the house.

The investigation showed that a family member hosted a party at the home on Feb. 22, which several young people aged 16 to 18 attended.

Authorities believe the theft happened during that gathering.

The victim says several of the stolen items hold deep sentimental value for the complainant, and is hopeful they can be recovered and returned.

Police are asking area pawnshops and jewellery stores to remain vigilant and to contact police immediately if anyone attempts to sell suspicious or high-value items matching the description of the stolen property.
