An 18-year-old from Elmira, Ont., was taken into custody shortly after a home invasion in St. Catharines, Ont., on Friday, according to Niagara regional police.

The young man was found in a stolen white Acura TLX that was registered in Mississauga. Authorities say he used the car to smash into two police cruisers.

This incident occurred around 3:50 a. m. near Lake Street and Welland Avenue on March 13.

Officials report that the 18-year-old stayed inside the stolen vehicle while four other individuals broke into an apartment and took personal items belonging to the residents.

Police mentioned that the four suspects ran west on foot when they were confronted.

NRPS detectives are still searching for four suspects who fled on foot after home invasion near Lake Street and Welland Avenue. CBC compiled a side-by-side image of the four suspects from CCTV screenshots obtained by NRPS. (Niagara Regional Police Service)

The victims couldn’t identify the suspects, as stated by Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) Const. Richard Hingley while detectives continue their investigation.

Charges include armed robbery and assaulting an officer

The suspect is facing multiple charges including armed robbery, forcible confinement, possession of a dangerous weapon, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, among others.

NRPS detectives are urging anyone who may have video or dashcam footage from around the time of the home invasion to reach out at 905-688-4111, option 2, ext. 1009222.
