Ontario mayor Mat Siscoe is pushing for a street name change following the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

On Thursday, Siscoe informed the that he plans to request the council to consider renaming Prince Andrew Court, which is a residential street situated near Prince Charles Court and Lake Street.

“St. Catharines councillors and I have been having discussions for some time about whether the court should be renamed,” Siscoe mentioned in a statement.

“Given today’s news of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest, I would say there is no reason to continue discussing.”

The former prince lost his royal titles due to his connections with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. He was arrested on Thursday under suspicion of misconduct in public office.

He was released later after spending 11 hours in custody; Thames Valley Police confirmed that he remains under investigation.

Although Mountbatten-Windsor has continually denied any wrongdoing related to his association with Epstein, concerns regarding this connection have haunted the Royal Family for over a decade.

Siscoe emphasized that it is essential for St. Catharines council to ensure that municipal names reflect community values and uphold public trust in civic institutions.

He is proposing a review process that would involve public consultation with affected residents and stakeholders while having staff report back with recommendations, including alternative names along with their financial and administrative implications.
