The individual who lost their life in a tent fire in St. Catharines earlier this week has been ruled a homicide victim, according to Niagara police.

On Friday, the Niagara Regional Police Service named the victim as Kenneth Dombroskie, 53.

Earlier this week, authorities reported that an unidentified man had perished after a tent ignited in a forested area. In a news release, police stated that they discovered a “large active fire involving a tent” at Mountain Locks Park along Merritt Trail early Tuesday morning.

The criminal investigative branch of the Niagara Regional Police Service and the Ontario fire marshal’s office have initiated an investigation, police noted.

“Based on the findings of the ongoing investigation, this incident has been determined to be a homicide,” police said in a news release Friday, adding they will continue to investigate.

Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
