Family Day is set for Monday, Feb. 16, 2026, in St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Welland, and the Niagara Region.

This holiday occurs on the third Monday of February each year and is recognized as a statutory holiday in Ontario as well as several other Canadian provinces, though it may go by different names depending on the province.

Since Family Day is a provincial holiday rather than a federal one, some federal government offices might still be open.

In popular tourist spots like Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake, certain shopping centres can operate while others may close. Residents should check directly with businesses to find out their specific hours for Family Day.

Open:

Canada One in Niagara Falls Outlet Collection at Niagara in Niagara-on-the-Lake Some smaller grocery stores like Rabba grocery stores Most Shoppers Drug Mart locations Over 60 wineries/vineyards in the Niagara region will mostly be open. It’s best to call ahead to confirm. Most breweries will also be open; calling ahead is recommended to verify. Cafes, restaurants, and bars that typically operate on Mondays are likely to be open but it’s wise to call first. Movie theatres Many family-friendly tourist attractions in Niagara Falls including Ripley’s Museum, the Niagara Sky Wheel, Movieland Wax Museum, Louis Tussauds Clifton Hill, Bird Kingdom, Butterfly Conservatory and more Canada Post (mail pick-up and delivery won’t change due to the holiday) Federal government offices The Mac Bain Community Centre in Niagara Falls The Niagara Falls Exchange Niagara Falls History Museum The Gale Centre Arena will host free public skating sessions Some public libraries in Niagara Falls

Closed:

All City and town halls Provincial government offices Banks All LCBO locations (some convenience outlets might be open; it’s good to call ahead) All Beer Store locations The Pen Centre in St. Catharines Fairview Mall in St. Catharines Seaway Mall in Welland

Transit

GO Transit will run on a Saturday schedule. Niagara Transit will provide conventional bus service within St. Catharines, Niagara Falls and Welland with no service available on regional routes.

Garbage:

There won’t be any changes to curbside collection schedules because of the holiday. Most community recycling centres are expected to remain open on Monday except for the West Lincoln site. INsauga’s Editorial Standards and Policies
