Provincial police have discovered human remains that are thought to be linked to an ongoing murder investigation in Simcoe, Ont.

The remains were located in a wooded area off Highway 6 in Haldimand County at around 6 p. m. on Thursday. An autopsy is set for Friday to determine the identity and cause of death.

Authorities are asking anyone who was in the vicinity on Oct. 5 between 10:30 p. m. and midnight to reach out if they noticed any unusual activity.

Last week, a 45-year-old man was arrested and charged with second-degree murder after a woman was found dead inside a home in Simcoe on Oct. 5.

OPP later confirmed that the suspect is the son of the deceased woman.

Police are also looking for a missing 49-year-old man who was last seen on Oct. 4 as part of this investigation.

This report by The Canadian Press was first Oct. 17, 2025.
