The provincial police have ended a shelter-in-place order on Saturday in Simcoe, Ont., which was issued while officers dealt with an ongoing incident involving possibly several armed individuals.

In a news release on Saturday, the Ontario Provincial Police announced that Colborne Street N., Union Street, Young Street, and Kent Street were closed due to the investigation.

According to an update from the OPP on Saturday, officers responded to a call at a Kent Street N. location about weapons being involved where a firearm was thought to have been fired at around 12:58 p. m.

No injuries were reported and the police are continuing their investigation, as mentioned in the OPP’s update on Saturday.

People in the area were advised to seek shelter right away, lock all doors and windows, close curtains or blinds, and go directly to their destination if they were driving, according to the OPP’s release on Saturday.

The provincial police also urged residents not to approach or engage with any suspects and avoid picking up hitchhikers.

Residents who weren’t in the affected area were asked not to travel there. The OPP noted that people could expect more police presence in the vicinity.

“We recognize the significant emotional impact that receiving a shelter in place can cause,” the OPP said in Saturday’s release. “The OPP is taking every precaution necessary to resolve this situation.”

If anyone has information related to this incident, they are encouraged to contact law enforcement.
