Residents in Simcoe are being asked to stay indoors as Norfolk OPP deal with an active situation involving potentially armed individuals.

Police indicate that the incident is focused around Kent Street and Union Street. Because of this, several roads are closed, including Colborne Street North, Union Street, Young Street, and Kent Street. Officers are on the scene and the investigation is still ongoing.

People in the affected area should find a safe place to stay. If you’re inside, make sure to lock all doors and windows and close curtains or blinds to keep a low profile. Anyone outside is advised to find shelter immediately.

Authorities emphasize that the public should not approach or engage with any suspects. If you see them or encounter them in any way, please call 9-1-1 right away.

Drivers are encouraged to go straight to their destinations, lock their doors upon arrival, and refrain from picking up hitchhikers. Those who aren’t in the area should avoid traveling there until further notice.

The OPP understands that a shelter-in-place order can be stressful and assures everyone that every measure is being taken for public safety.
