Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) report that a 15-month-old child lost their life in a crash on Monday.

Authorities were alerted to the intersection of Hwy. 3 and County Road 31 shortly after 10 a. m. on Monday, with Essex Windsor EMS, along with fire departments from Leamington and Kingsville also responding. The Ontario Provincial Police Traffic Incident Management Enforcement Unit was called to the scene as well.

Five individuals were transported to the hospital. Three of them sustained minor injuries.

According to police, the toddler was a passenger in one of the SUVs involved in the incident. They were taken to the hospital but unfortunately did not survive their injuries.

The SUV driver, a 33-year-old woman, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident caused highway closures between County Road 34 and Morse Road, as well as between County Road 31 and County Road 18. Those sections have since been reopened.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has dash cam footage of it to contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or visit www. catchcrooks. com.
