York Regional Police report that a 23-year-old man has been charged following a deadly, unprovoked attack in Richmond Hill on Wednesday evening.
Officers were dispatched to the scene of an assault near Lorraine Street and Bernard Avenue just before 5 p. m.
Upon arrival, police found the male victim with serious injuries. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but was later pronounced dead, according to YRP.
The Office of the Chief Coroner identified the victim as Amir Shafei, 54, from Richmond Hill. His death resulted from blunt force trauma.
Police informed 680 News Radio that Shafei was outside his home when he was assaulted by a stranger who does not reside in the area.
“The matter is currently being investigated. Our homicide unit has been engaged,” YRP Duty Inspector Ken Golding stated at the scene.

23-Year-Old Charged with Second-Degree Murder
Investigators have arrested and charged Raymond Kim, 23, of Richmond Hill, with second-degree murder in connection with Shafei’s death. The police also noted that Kim faces two counts of breaching probation since he was under two separate probation orders at the time of the attack on Shafei. No other suspects are being pursued. Investigators are still trying to establish a motive and are urging any witnesses who haven’t come forward yet, along with anyone who may have security footage from the area, to reach out to them.Source link
