A 54-year-old man has died after an “unprovoked attack” in Richmond Hill on Wednesday and a suspect has been arrested, York Regional Police say.
The incident took place outside on Lorraine Street, close to Yonge Street and Elgin Mills Road E., according to Duty Insp. Ken Golding, spokesperson for York Regional Police.
Police were called to the area just before 5 p. m. for a report of an assault.
When officers arrived, they found the man with serious injuries. York Regional Paramedics transported him in life-threatening condition to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after.
Golding mentioned that authorities do not yet know where the victim lived. His name hasn’t been released as police still need to inform next of kin.

Assault ‘was between 2 strangers,’ police say
The suspect was apprehended nearby. Golding stated that law enforcement is not seeking any additional suspects. The individual’s name has not been disclosed and there’s no update on charges yet. “At this time, it appears that the attack was unprovoked and it was between two strangers,” Golding told reporters near the scene. Golding added there is no threat to public safety, but residents should expect a significant police presence in the area. The homicide unit is investigating and forensic identification services are present at the scene, he said. Officers were seen in the area on Wednesday night looking for witnesses and checking for surveillance camera footage as well as dashboard camera video, he added. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.Source link
