An 11-year-old girl and a 24-year-old woman have tragically lost their lives after suffering injuries in a fire that is thought to have been intentionally set in Richmond Hill.

Emergency services responded to the fire near Skywood Drive and Rolling Hill Road at around 3:15 a. m. on Monday.

York Regional Police reported that four individuals were found unconscious inside the house during the incident, while one victim was located outside.

Paramedics evaluated four adults and one youth at the scene, transporting them to different hospitals in the area for care.

The girl passed away from her injuries on Sept. 2.

The woman, identified by police as Helya Bahari-Kashani from Richmond Hill, succumbed to her injuries on Sept. 3.

The other three patients taken to hospitals remain in critical condition.

This case is now being classified as a homicide since investigators suspect it was caused by arson. Ontario’s Fire Marshal is also looking into the situation.

No information about any suspects has been made public yet.
