Pedi N Nails in Aurora and Blink Nail and Spa in Richmond Hill faced charges from York Region Public Health inspectors last week.

Last week, nail salons in Aurora and Richmond Hill were cited for violating public health regulations.

During an inspection on June 9, York Region Public Health inspectors discovered that Blink Nail and Spa, located at 9665 Bayview Ave. in Richmond Hill, had reusable tools that weren’t properly cleaned or disinfected between uses.

This salon, which offers manicure and pedicure services, has implemented temporary measures until a follow-up inspection takes place.

The inspectors’ report highlighted several issues that Blink Nail and Spa addressed during the visit: failure to ensure the handwashing sink was always supplied with potable hot and cold running water; failure to clean reusable equipment frequently enough to prevent disease spread; failure to discard single-use items immediately after use; and failure to use disinfectants for the right contact time or concentration for the items being sanitized.

Pedi N Nails at 650 Wellington St. East in Aurora was charged following a re-inspection on June 13.

Inspectors found three violations at this salon: not cleaning reusable equipment as often as needed to stop disease transmission; not disinfecting reusable tools frequently enough; and not throwing away single-use instruments right after use.

Pedi N Nails provides various services including eyelash extensions, eyebrow shaping, nail care, and hair removal. It was previously inspected on June 11 when several problems were fixed: failure to have soap available near the handwashing sink; failure to clean reusable equipment often enough; failure to disinfect those tools as needed; and failure to discard single-use instruments immediately post-use.

The reports reflect the state of these personal service settings only at the time of inspection and do not guarantee their condition at any other time.

For further details, reach out to York Region Health Connection at 1-800-361-5653 or TTY 1-866-252-9933.
