A shelter-in-place order that was active for four hours overnight in Renfrew, Ont., has been lifted, but a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman on Thursday night is still at large, according to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Police reported that a woman went to a local hospital on Thursday and said she had been held against her will and sexually assaulted at a motel on Stewart Street.

The woman stated that the suspect, who she knows, was armed with a handgun.

Authorities later spotted the suspect, but he ran onto the Algonquin Trail. Despite a search involving multiple OPP units, including the canine team, they were unable to find him.

“While there was believed to be no threat to the general public, a shelter-in-place order was issued for the area just after 9:00 p. m. out of an abundance of caution,” OPP said in a news release. The order was lifted at 1 a. m.

The suspect is described as Black, standing between five-feet-nine-inches and six feet tall, with shaved sides on his head. He has a goatee and sports a five-star tattoo above his left eyebrow along with another tattoo under his left eye. At last sighting, he was wearing a purple plaid jacket, black shorts, and a blue shirt.

OPP mentioned they are seeking an arrest warrant for this man and are encouraging him to turn himself in. The public is advised not to approach the suspect and to call 911 if they see anything suspicious.

If anyone has information or relevant doorbell or dashcam footage, they’re asked to reach out to OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and refer to incident E251166365. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online.
