RENFREW – Late Thursday night, Aug. 28, Ontario Provincial Police conducted a large search in Renfrew after a woman reported being held against her will and sexually assaulted at a motel in the area.

The woman went to the hospital on Aug. 28 and told staff that she had been assaulted at a motel on Stewart Street. She also mentioned that the man involved was someone she knew and that he was armed with a handgun.

By the time police arrived, the suspect had already left the motel but was later seen walking nearby. When officers tried to arrest him, he ran onto the Algonquin Trail, which led to a thorough search.

The operation included members from Renfrew OPP, the Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit, and Tactics and Rescue Unit. Out of caution, authorities issued a shelter-in-place advisory for the neighborhood shortly after 9 p. m. While police didn’t think there was an immediate danger to the public, this advisory stayed in effect until just before 1 a. m., when they called off the search.

The police have identified the suspect and are working on obtaining a warrant for his arrest. He is described as a Black male between 5’9″ to 6′ (175-183 cm) tall with hair on top and shaved sides, along with a goatee and noticeable tattoos-a five-star design above his left eyebrow and another under his left eye. He was last seen wearing a purple plaid jacket along with what might be black shorts and a blue shirt.

Residents are advised not to approach him if spotted but to call 9-1-1 right away.

The OPP is also asking anyone who may have information or relevant doorbell camera footage or dashcam videos to reach out to Renfrew OPP at 1-888-310-1122 referencing incident E251166365. Anonymous tips can be shared through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at ontariocrimestoppers. ca.
