Assault Report Sparks Major Police Search

The police have filed 13 charges against a man related to a sexual assault incident in Renfrew, Ont., which led to an extensive search and prompted a shelter-in-place advisory from Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) last month.
On August 28, a woman reported to the police that she had been held against her will and sexually assaulted by someone she knew who was armed with a handgun.
This past Friday, OPP reported that the Ottawa Police Service arrested the suspect in Ottawa on Tuesday and transported him to the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.
“It was known that the [man] was a person who frequented Ottawa,” OPP spokesperson Bill Dickson told CBC.
The accused faces over a dozen charges:
Assault. Assault with a weapon. Sexual assault. Forcible confinement. Overcoming resistance by attempting to choke, suffocate or strangle. Pointing a firearm. Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm – two counts. Criminal harassment – threatening conduct. Intimidation. Intimidation – uses threats of violence. Mischief. Obstructing a peace officer. Failing to comply with a release order – two counts.
The man’s identity can’t be revealed as it might disclose the victim’s information.
He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear again in court in Pembroke on September 26.
