Two women lost their lives after the car they were in collided with a pickup truck on Tuesday afternoon in Renfrew, Ont., as reported by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Officers arrived at the scene of the accident on Highway 17 around 12:45 p. m., according to a news release issued Wednesday morning. OPP temporarily closed the highway in both directions between Chenaux Road and Bruce Street.

The victims, a 54-year-old and a 78-year-old from Val-des-Monts, Que., were the driver and passenger of the vehicle, police said. They were taken to the hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The sole occupant of the pickup truck did not report any injuries, according to police.

Police stated that the investigation is ongoing and urged anyone who witnessed or has footage of the incident to reach out to them at 1-888-310-1122.
