Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police in Peterborough County rescued a 45-year-old woman after her SUV went into Rice Lake early on Tuesday morning.
The police were called to the scene just after midnight when a bystander reported seeing an SUV speeding off Wood Duck Drive, located east of Bailieboro, Ont., before it ended up in the lake. The witness mentioned that they had not seen anyone come out of the vehicle.

Three officers arrived quickly at the location and took a small boat to approach the submerged vehicle, using its headlights as a guide. The officers then entered the water and managed to pull the driver out of her SUV. According to OPP, she was brought safely to shore where firefighters continued her care. More on Crime More videos The driver, who is from Port Elgin, Ont., was transported to a local hospital before being moved to a trauma center in Toronto due to serious injuries. Story continues below Firefighters later retrieved the vehicle from Rice Lake, which is about 20 minutes south of Peterborough and 20 minutes north of Cobourg.
